Purpose of the Job

4D Pharma Research have an excellent opportunity for a full time administrator to join the team. The successful candidate will provide support to the Research site, this includes reception duties, general office admin duties and HR admin duties. The successful candidate will also book travel, organise events and meetings, file expenses, keep various spreadsheets up to date and liaise with internal and external individuals.


Experience / Qualifications Required

  • 3+ years of administrative experience
  • 1+ years of HR administrative experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Discretion and trustworthiness is essential
  • Good knowledge of standard office software packages


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Act as a first point of contact for the Research Site
  • Provide general & HR administrative support
  • Manage diaries, organise meetings and appointments
  • Manage PO’s for the Research site
  • Book travel and accommodation
  • Liaise with internal and external individuals
  • Various other administrative duties

About the Company

4D pharma Cork Ltd was founded in February 2016 by Professor’s Fergus Shanahan and Paul O’Toole. The focus of the company is to investigate how variations in the composition of bacterial communities in the gut can be used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Recent advances in the field have highlighted the importance of the gut microbiome, not only for the development of safe and efficacious new therapeutics, but also for the discovery of novel personalised diagnostic tools. 4D pharma Cork Ltd is a subsidiary of 4D pharma plc (http://www.4dpharmaplc.com/), a UK pharmaceutical company focusing on the development of live biotherapeutics, a novel and emerging class of drugs. We are developing a diagnostic platform, MicroDx, across multiple disease areas, mirroring 4D’s proprietary MicroRx platform for the discovery of live biotherapeutics.


Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and an experienced research assistant to join the 4D pharma Cork laboratory team. The candidate must have experience in handling clinical samples, molecular biology, DNA extraction and ideally amplicon sequencing. Metabolomics or other biological/analytical instrumentation and bioassay experience in a diagnostic environment is also desirable. The appointee will liaise with the research and clinical team to advance various programmes of the company.


Experience / Qualifications Required

  • MSc. in e.g. genetics, microbiology, biochemistry or relevant biological science, or BSc with at least 2 years relevant experience in the research area
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Previous laboratory experience and ability to follow SOPs
  • Good analytical and computer skills
  • Capability of working effectively within a team to achieve results
  • Evidence of excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Vaccination appropriate for handling biological samples of human origin
  • Experience in 16S rRNA amplification, purification and sequencing for microbiome compositional analysis
  • Please note that Garda vetting and international police clearance check may form part of the selection process


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Process human samples (including faeces and urine) for microbiome analysis
  • Carry out bioassays on biological samples as required for the research programmes
  • Preparation, updating and execution of SOPs and other GLP and QMS documentation
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports, draft manuscripts and presentations on company research activities and present data in company meetings as required
  • Liaise with project team including clinical and research staff, to ensure timely processing of data to advance the research programme
  • Maintain and manage all data in a safe and secure manner at all times
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities to develop research skills and competencies as required by the Directors and Site Manager
  • Participate in training as required to develop or augment core skill-sets
  • Promote and maintain a positive teamwork environment
